Legal Matters

Ah, it's that time of the year again. I am currently in the process of writing two legal documents that would eventually allow me to conduct a series of experiments for research. I've done this quite a few times before, and so it's just another repeat performance.

The funny thing is that there are rather interesting and weird things that I need to do in order to accomplish this. I need to be made aware of the fact that there have been weird experiments in the past, such as the Tuskegee experiments, the Milgram experiments, and all other interesting events in the past, and that they are now banned and not ideal when it comes to academic research. I cannot just inject people with the syphilis virus and observe what would happen.

Of course, that is not what is happening in my research. I give people sentences, words, narratives, and I only measure their reading time. But then, I need to educate myself about the bad research methods first.

I can see how this is relevant, but at the same time, I am also a rational human being. But who knows, someone out there might think that I am a mad scientist. So yeah, I have to do this. The good thing is that I have had several past protocols approved, so I have practice in this thing.

Hopefully I get this approved soon, so things can happen in the lab. Yay!
