Traversing the Ardennes: The Atomium

Belgium is known for many things, and while we were there, we tried to see or do these things. We ate waffles in Ghent; we munched on chocolates while we were strolling the streets in Brussels; and we even gawked at the pissing boy statue of Manneken Pis. But not only that, we also trekked to the northern part of the city and visited the Atomium.

The Atomium was originally constructed for the Expo 1958. The balls are interconnected by a series of escalators and they all contain exhibit space. We didn't visit the inside, as we somehow thought that paying 11 EUR was not worth it. But I still had my camera with me, and so here are some photos of the structure. I have to say that the structure is one of the weirdest buildings I have seen.

If you are in the area and felt the need to go inside, by all means let me know so I can ask you what it was like to be inside. But when we were there, we were more inclined to spend the 11 EUR on chocolate than go up and see a view.

  1. I've never seen it so close! Funky iconic building. I missed it when I was in Brussels many years ago, it was hard to get to I think. That's like 15 years old!

    1. Zhu,

It is indeed out of the way, but now there's a metro station 5 minutes by foot from the building!
