Gaddafi is Dead

I interrupt my regularly scheduled posting rate of 2 posts per 3 days, for this rather important news. Muammar Gaddafi is dead.

Yes folks, the dictator fell. And it was a hard fall, I've heard. But after reading accounts by the BBC and The New York Times, perhaps it is safe to assume that finally, the battle is over.

See, the weird thing is that I am actually glad of this news. You might think that I am glad that a person, yes, a human being, has his life ended, but really, I am. I don't even try to pretend otherwise. I really am glad that he is dead.

Back in March, I wrote about how Gaddafi should step down, as his behavior suggests that he is unfit to be a leader of a country. He was insane, he was delusional, he was irrational. Someone who has a God complex like that is not fit to be ruler.

The thing is, I am a big believer of self-determination. There have been dissidents that risked their life trying to voice their opinion against you, and yet your regime has taken much effort to silence them. People rebelled and got tired of your regime, and yet you hire mercenaries to kill your own citizens, you invent stories about hallucinogenic drugs, and you spread propaganda that spreads opinions that cannot be farther from the truth.

A ruler is only fit to rule as long as the people still tolerate their tenure. Once people are fed up with you, it's time to step down.

I should say, I admire your consistency. I admire the fact that you have been a brutal autocratic ruler up to the end, up until your death. If there was one good quality that you had, it was that you're a man of principle, sticking to them up to the bitter end, however skewed these principles might be.

Mr. Gaddafi, a lot of people died because of you. It's about time you have a taste of your own medicine.
