Yeah, I finally got the official letter telling me that I am offered a job in Germany. I'll be what is known as a post-doctoral research scientist (see this article for more information about what a postdoc is about), affiliated with a German research institution. I haven't been so excited in a while.
So yeah, I've been psyching myself for it. Brushing up on my German, thinking about topics to do research on, daydreaming about what Berlin as a city has to offer, and so forth. Heck, I've even watched this video a few times.
So yeah, it's amazing how time passes. Seven years ago, in 2005, I started this blog as a way of chronicling the latest chapter in my life, which was graduate school. Now, this chapter is about to end. It's been a wonderful chapter, many things have occurred, and I don't regret any of them.
Alas, it's time to open a new chapter, so we'll see what happens next. I turned 30 this month, am getting my PhD in a few weeks, and have a job waiting for me in one of the most vibrant cities in Europe.
Yeah, life is good right now. Hopefully it stays that way.
Oh cool! That's great news!
ReplyDeleteEurope is a good place to start a career, well, especially with a job offer. It will be a change for you but again, you know changes with your expat background. I think it's a good pick.
Are you fluent in German?
Zhu,
DeleteIt is indeed great news! Change is in the air indeed, but as you said, I've undergone changes so many times that this will be no different. My German is not so fluent, I have taken 2 years of German in college, so it is a little rusty, but otherwise, I thinnk it should be fine.
I'm so excited for you! I've never been to Berlin and we even had plans to travel there during my summer vacay, but cancelled it for a later date. Anyway, as I said before you're always welcome to stay with us when you're going to take a vacay in Norway :)
ReplyDeleteCharles,
DeleteThanks! I am excited myself! Based on what I've read, Berlin is an awesome city, so I am definitely looking forward to this move!
