One afternoon, we crossed the Vistula and headed south to check out Oskar Schindler's Enamel Factory. It is actually now a branch of the Historical Museum of Krakow, and has a permanent exhibition on Krakow during the War, between 1939 to 1945.
I don't know much about Oskar Schindler. I am aware of the famous movie, but I actually haven't seen it. So thankfully the museum was very informative. There was even a rather long and substantial film that was showing on loop which was a documentary focusing on Schindler and the many Jewish employees that he had eventually saved.
Of course the change started gradually. Life didn't immediately drastically changed as the war progressed. But little by little things became worse. The exhibits showed this gradience. First, there were elements of life "as we know it" that slowly got disrupted.
Pronunciations were issued. University classes were disrupted. Things eventually stopped being normal. I actually like how the museum captured the passage of time, as there was a coherent story that was told as one progressed through the exhibits.
The rest of the exhibits show various artifacts of life back then. It definitely makes visitors think that they should be grateful they didn't live during that time.
It took me about two hours to go through the material. It's definitely a very informative place, and something that I would recommend to those interested in history and in World War II in particular.
