Berliner Mauerweg: Schönefeld to Sigridshorst (22 km)

I continued the Berliner Mauerweg. In fact, I did the next leg across two days: I originally wanted to do this 22 kilometres but during the first day, I was just so bored, even though the weather was actually good. So I just did half of it, about 11 kilometres. And I picked up the remaining half the following weekend.

Berlin Boogie: Open House at the Hamburger Bahnhof

I have been to the Hamburger Bahnhof a few times before - the first time was actually in 2013. I remember liking the things that I saw back then. And I remember being there a couple more times when friends were visiting town. This time, I learned that they were hosting an Open House, and entrance was free. So I visited once again.

I continued the Berliner Mauerweg. And this is the leg when I finally get out of the city centre.

Bieberbau*

So this is just the fourth time we have dined in a Michelin-starred restaurant here in Berlin, as most of the time, we travel for these types of restaurants. But it was recently my husband's birthday, not to mention that it was a round-number anniversary for us, we wanted some sort of fancy dinner as a celebration. So we went to Bieberbau*. This is a restaurant in a neighbourhood that is close to where we live. In fact, we just walked there from home. I know of this restaurant, as I see it every now and then when we take walks, yet we never really had the chance to visit. So we went this time, as it has been awhile since we had a fancy dinner. The last time we dined in a Michelin-starred restaurant was when we were in Hallmann und Klee*, which was also in Berlin, last year.

Berliner Mauerweg: Wollankstrasse to Warschauer Strasse (18 km)

So I continued the Berliner Mauerweg. This time, I went through the city centre, and therefore, this is the section that is most touristy.

Berliner Mauerweg: Hermsdorf to Wollankstrasse (16 km)

I've actually done the Berliner Mauerweg once, back in 2013. However, I didn't have a habit of bringing my camera with me back then, so more than a decade later, I figured it's a good idea to repeat it, as perhaps things have changed in the meantime. So when the weather started being warmer again this year, I started my hiking season by tackling a section of the Berliner Mauerweg, beginning from Hermsdorf in the north of the city, heading all the way to Wollankstrasse, for a total of 16 kilometres.

Berlin Boogie: Auswärtiges Amt

The other federal agency I have visited during the weekend of the Open House of the German Federal Government was the Federal Foreign Office, or the Auswärtiges Amt. This is essentially Germany's Foreign Ministry. I have been here before, ages ago, during one other Open House Weekend. However, I haven't taken photos, and I wanted to check it out once again.

It has been more than a year since I last wrote a post on my Berlin Boogie series, which is the keyword I use whenever I do some sight-seeing within my adoptive hometown. A few months ago, during late summer, there was the Open House of the Federal Government, and I used this occasion to visit a couple of federal agencies. The first one I visited was actually the German Federal Ministry of Defence, located on the Bendlerblock Complex in Berlin.

So this is just the third time we have dined in a Michelin-starred restaurant here in Berlin, as most of the time, we travel for these types of restaurants. But it was my birthday last summer, and we wanted some sort of fancy dinner as a celebration. So we went to Hallmann und Klee*. This is a restaurant in a neighbourhood that we typically don't frequent, but since they recently received a star, we thought that it would be a good idea to go now, before they raise prices. The last time we dined in a Michelin-starred restaurant was when we were in Jellyfish* in Hamburg, some months ago earlier this year.

E10 in Brandenburg: Nassenheide to Löwenberg (17 km)

I suppose it is no surprise that the farther one goes away from the city, the harder it is to reach destinations with public transport. This statement is true with this leg, hence I am not too fast in progressing in my northward progress on the E10. In any case, one Friday, I took the RB12 from Berlin Ostkreuz, which took me to Nassenheide, a village north of Berlin. From here I picked up the E10 once again.

E10 in Brandenburg: Potsdam to Saarmund (15 km)

I went back to Potsdam. Given that Potsdam is where multiple hiking trails intersect, at some point, I would go back here multiple times over the years. And since I am opening another direction on the E10, I had to go back here one more time.

E10 in Brandenburg: Borgsdorf to Nassenheide (17 km)

After a small interlude where I went all the way to Mainz in order to hike, I picked up the E10 again where I left off, in Borgsdorf. I found this trail slightly annoying the last time, as for the most part, it was on bike paths, and therefore this meant that the trail was rather paved. Thankfully, it was less so this time.

Paul-Gerhardt-Weg: Leg 9 - Schlepzig to Lübben (16 km)

Who the heck is Paul Gerhardt? After all, I hiked 140 kilometres of a trail that bears his name, so I supposed at some point I should know. Well, now that I have completed the entire Paul-Gerhardt-Weg, I have an idea who he is.

Paul-Gerhardt-Weg: Leg 8 - Märkisch Buchholz to Schlepzig (25 km)

Finally, I picked up the Paul-Gerhardt-Weg again. I've been procrastinating on this trail, and after last year. I still had 2 legs to go. Leg 8 was long, and getting to the start was also rather complicated, so it took me some time to actually pick this up. In fact, several of my recent hiking excursions in the past weeks were done with a different trail, simply because the time window to pick up this trail had expired, and if I were to still hike that day, I needed to pick a different and more easily reachable one. In any case, one Saturday in May, I finally managed to pick this up, and I made my way to Märkisch Buchholz.

E10 in Brandenburg: Hennigsdorf to Borgsdorf (16 km)

I continued the E10 one week after. And since it was slightly cloudy with a little chance of rain, I brought my rain jacket with me.

E10 in Brandenburg: Brieselang to Hennigsdorf (22 km)

Now that spring is here, and the trees have leaves again, I try to go hiking during the weekends when the weather is great. And this was the case last weekend, so I continued the E10 where I left off, picking it up from Brieselang and going all the way to Hennigsdorf.

E10 in Brandenburg: Wustermark to Brieselang (11 km)

Hiking season started again. One weekend in March, the temperature was warm enough, which I somehow define as being higher than 12 degrees. So I took out my hiking boots, my hiking sticks, and my hiking app. And I picked up the E10 in Wustermark, where I left it off last year.

Berlin Boogie: The Westhafen Außenmagazin

Back in September, there was the Day of Open Monuments. I especially enjoy this weekend every year, as this is the time when buildings that are typically closed to the public actually open their doors and tours are conducted. I take this opportunity to find something new to do and see in Berlin, and learn a little bit more than what I already know. So this time, we went to Westhafen, as we had tickets for a tour of the Außenmagazin.

A Day Trip to Magdeburg: Grüne Zitadelle

One Sunday in August, we spontaneously decided to go to Magdeburg. I have been to this city once, two years ago, back when there was the summer where one can have a 9-Euro Ticket and travel all over Germany using the regional trains. I wanted to use my ticket back then for an excursion, and ended up in Magdeburg. However, I just strolled around and didn't really take photos. In any case, I wanted to come back, so we did that this time, two years later. And we ended up at the Grüne Zitadelle, a building by Friedensreich Hundertwasser, an Austrian architect.

E10 in Brandenburg: Ketzin to Wustermark (17 km)

I was on the fence between continuing the E10 or continuing the other trail I am in the middle of completing. But since public transportation connections for the other trail was slightly tricky, and I didn't want to get disappointed, not to mention that the next segment on the other trail was considerably longer than 17 kilometres and the weather was warmer than what I would normally like, I opted to continue the E10 instead. So I headed from home to Potsdam on a Friday morning, and from there I took another bus, which took me to Ketzin.
