The Indochina Adventure: Wat Preah Prom Rath

Before I left Cambodia, I saw one thing that was not related to Angkor. I checked out this modern temple in the middle of Siem Reap, the Wat Preah Prom Rath.

The Indochina Adventure: Preah Khan

The last ancient Angkor temple I have checked out before moving on was this one, Preah Khan. It was built in the 12th century for King Jayavarman VII to honour his father. I went here after visiting Ta Som and Neak Poan.

And now for something different: most of the temples I have seen so far are on land. This one on the other hand is on an artificial island, surrounded by water.

The Indochina Adventure: Ta Som

It's time to venture to the less known areas of Angkor. After all, I had 5 nights in the area, and so I had plenty of time to explore. This time, I started my day by heading to Ta Som. This is a small temple east of Angkor Thom.

The Indochina Adventure: The Terrace of the Elephants and Beyond

After exploring Baphuon, I walked further north. There is a number of interesting archaeological sites in this area, and it definitely is worth exploring. One just has to bring a hat, as it is getting hot after all, as it's already mid-day.

And then it was time to go to Bayon. This temple is at the centre of Angkor Thom, just a short ride north from Angkor Wat. It is a massive area, and I started the morning by heading to the south gate.

The Indochina Adventure: Pre Rup

Now it's time to explore other temples. So one morning, after breakfast, I hailed a tuktuk to go to Pre Rup. This is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva, built as the state temple of Khmer king Rajendravarman. And I wanted to see it before the crowds appear.

The Indochina Adventure: Angkor Wat

I landed one late morning in Siem Reap. The new airport was relatively far from the city, and the car ride to my villa took around an hour. After dropping my bag, as my room was not yet ready, I just went out for lunch. And then I went and purchased my Angkor Wat ticket, which would be my entrance ticket for my entire stay. And immediately after that, I headed for Angkor Wat.
