And then it was time to go to Bayon. This temple is at the centre of Angkor Thom, just a short ride north from Angkor Wat. It is a massive area, and I started the morning by heading to the south gate.
As usual, I hailed a tuktuk using an app. And immediately I found one. It took me to the south gate after a short twenty minute ride.
The South Gate features a long row of statues, one standing after another. These statues represent the devas and asuras grasping a naga, which references the myth of the churning of the sea of milk.
Then there's the gate itself, which features intricate statues. There is a one-way road that goes through it.
From there, Bayon temple is still a bit of a walk, but eventually I got there. I saw the towers with the massive peaceful faces. I wandered along the corridors and its tunnels. There were plenty of galleys and other areas that were worth exploring. I definitely had a great fun.
After some time, I eventually finished exploring Bayon. So it was time to move on, to another temple, just behind it.
