On my final day in Dublin, it was raining. It was quite a rainy day so I definitely had to go indoors or else I would be soaked. So I headed to the National Museum of Ireland – Archaeology. I wanted to see some mummies.

I didn't realise that there are two Church of Ireland cathedrals in Dublin. I visited the Christ Church Cathedral earlier, but I also went ahead and checked out the Saint Patrick's Cathedral, which was nearby but further south.

Of course I visited the Irish Emigration Museum when I was in Dublin. I suppose it is a well-known fact that many Irish people have left the island to settle elsewhere, and this museum chronicled the history of this event. I therefore spent a few hours in this very educational and informative museum, learning about the Irish diaspora.

After spending one morning in the centre of Dublin, I decided last-minute to take the train and head over to Howth. I wanted a different scenery for the rest of the day, so I headed to Howth to explore a castle and some cliffs.

I wanted to visit this prestigious university during my visit to Dublin. After all, I have seen so many pictures of this university's library, and so I definitely wanted to see that in person. So when I was there, I figured out how to do that, by buying a ticket online and heading to the building during my timeslot.

After visiting the Kilmainham Gaol, I walked a bit and crossed the road, and eventually I ended up in the Irish Museum of Modern Art. This museum is housed in the 17th-century Royal Hospital Kilmainham, but even though the building is rather on the traditional side, the artwork contained by these buildings are nothing but traditional.

I almost didn't get to visit the Kilmainham Gaol. I had that on my list, but I wasn't aware that a reservation has to be made to get a ticket. So one morning, I simply went there thinking I could just walk in and get a ticket on the spot. I didn't realise that there was a high demand that day, but thankfully, since I was alone, they managed to squeeze me into the next tour about to start.

As with many major European cities, there is a river that flows through Dublin. This is the River Liffey, which eventually flows towards Dublin Bay. I took a stroll alongside its banks one afternoon.

After meeting up with an ex-colleague, I continued discovering Dublin. I somehow landed in the National Gallery of Ireland, which is housing Ireland's national collection of Irish and European art. There are a lot of works to see here.

Dublin actually has two cathedrals. The Christ Church Cathedral is the older one of them, as it was found in the 11th century. It was rebuilt in the 12th century, and significantly enlarged in the 13th century. And in the 21st century, during one long weekend, I visited it.

The weather was pleasant during my first full day in Dublin. And this was also the day when I was meeting up with an ex-colleague of sorts. So while I was waiting for her to show up, I took the opportunity to stroll around and check out outdoor areas of the city. I started by checking two open spaces right in the centre of town, Merrion Square Park and St. Stephen's Green.

The Dubliner Long Weekend

Back in March, I went to Dublin for a long weekend. March 8th was a public holiday in Berlin, and since it was a Tuesday, I filed vacation days for Monday and Wednesday, so I had an extended long weekend. I haven't been to Ireland before, so this was an addition to my country count. And my primary objective was to enjoy some English-language theatre. So I flew to Dublin after work on the Friday, and I was there for a total of 5 nights. Yes, I had two nights where I had tickets to the theatre, but of course, I was also sightseeing during the day. This travelogue will cover these aspects.
