Cavorting by the Rivers: The Plazas of Buenos Aires

This is my final post for this trip. It's been a great 3-and-a-half weeks on the road, and to wrap it up, I wanted to show the various interesting open spaces that I have explored while I was in Buenos Aires.

The last item I decided to see while in Buenos Aires was this museum. It is actually a very interesting one, and is worth checking out, if you're interested in the history of Buenos Aires, and how it evolved from a small settlement by the water to the metropolis it is today.

As I was exploring Buenos Aires, I found myself by the main plaza in front of the Casa Rosada multiple times. And then I stumbled upon the Museo del Bicentenario, a museum located semi-underground, behind the Casa Rosada. It looked interesting and so I decided to check it out.

While I was in Buenos Aires, I stumbled upon the Teatro Colón. It is the city's premiere opera house, and it seems they offer guided tours! So I signed up for a spot.

Cavorting by the Rivers: Catedral Metropolitana de Buenos Aires

After spending some time in the northeastern part of the country, I eventually made my way back to Buenos Aires. After all, I had a limited amount of time in the country, and my flight back home was departing from the capital. So I flew from Resistencia to Buenos Aires to spend the final days I had. And the first thing I checked out when I arrived was the city's Metropolitan Cathedral.

While I was staying in Resistencia, I took a day trip across the Parana River to Corrientes. These two cities are quite close to each other, and is a short ride away. Looking back, I found Corrientes to be more charming than Resistencia, and would have loved to have stayed in Corrientes instead, but in any case, my plans nevertheless worked.

After Posadas, Resistencia was my next stop. It's the logical next big city to go to heading south. So I booked myself a bus ticket from Posadas, and a few hours later, I found myself in Resistencia. And oh my, there's so many sculptures!

As mentioned in my previous post, I headed over to Posadas after spending time in Puerto Iguazu. Posadas is actually a rather nice city on the Paraná River, just across the city of Encarnación, Paraguay. I spent a few nights here while exploring the area.

After spending four days in Puerto Iguazu, it was time to move on. I bought a bus ticket and headed to Posadas, where I stayed for a few days. And from there, I did a day trip to San Ignacio. I wanted to see an old Jesuit mission.

After checking out the Devil's Throat, I explored further the Argentinian side of the Iguazu Falls. I actually liked this experience, following several trails in and around the various falls that make up this amazing natural beauty.

Cavorting by the Rivers: Iguazu Falls (Garganta del Diablo)

So, it was time. It was time to check out the Iguazu Falls. I've set aside two days for this. One day to check out the Argentinian side, and another day to see the Brazilian side. I started with the Argentinian side. There was a minibus that picked me up from my hotel, and we drove to the national park. I was absolutely stoked.

Cavorting by the Rivers: Galerías Pacífico

There is this shopping mall in Buenos Aires that I frequented several times while I was there: the Galerías Pacífico. This Beaux Arts building was constructed in 1889, and still stands today housing several luxury shops. And the interior is nice.

Cavorting by the Rivers: Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes

After exploring the famous cemetery, I ventured nearby and explored further the surrounding neighbourhood. Before leaving Recoleta, I visited the National Museum for Fine Arts. It is my habit to check out the local art whenever I am visiting a new place, and so I wanted to explore this place and see what Argentinian art is all about.

I definitely wanted to go to the cemetery. After all, it they say that it is one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the world, I definitely would want to check it out. So I headed over to the Cementerio de la Recoleta.

Cavorting by the Rivers: Recoleta

I crossed the Rio de la Plata from Colonia in Uruguay to Buenos Aires in Argentina. The approach was fantastic: after several days in sleepy Colonia, seeing the shiny skyscrapers of Buenos Aires was refreshing! I stayed for 2 nights, and while I was there, I checked out a few items, including the neighbourhood of Recoleta.

Cavorting by the Rivers

Earlier this year, from the middle of May to the middle of June, I took a long three-and-a-half week vacation. I flew to South America and visited new countries! I increased my country count by visiting Uruguay, Argentina, and Brazil. And it was fun!
