Cavorting by the Rivers: The Sculptures of Resistencia

After Posadas, Resistencia was my next stop. It's the logical next big city to go to heading south. So I booked myself a bus ticket from Posadas, and a few hours later, I found myself in Resistencia. And oh my, there's so many sculptures!

Resistencia is the capital and largest city of Chaco Province, and I am told that this area is considered Argentina's outback. It's definitely more a small town feel than a large city, but nevertheless, there's plenty of public art available. After all, the city hosts the Biennial International Sculptures Contest since 1988, and the idea is that sculptors from all over the world would produce a public work of art within the span of a week. These pieces eventually stay within Resistencia, and dot the various areas of the city. So strolling around becomes an open-air art walk.

The sculptures are all over the place, from the central plaza, to the sidewalks, to large areas that are designated as public parks. I simply went on a stroll around the city and found so many sculptures. Some are interesting, but others are more just blah. In any case, it was nice to look at.
