The Australian Adventure: One Central Park

The last thing I explored while I was in Sydney and otherwise hanging out with family was this little area in the middle of the city centre. One Central Park is a fantastic and futuristic area in the middle of Sydney. It's filled with skyscrapers and interesting and modern buildings. I took some time exploring this interesting and photogenic area.

The Australian Adventure: The Coastal Walk from Bondi to Coogee

One of the most memorable things I have done while I was in Sydney was to walk the Coastal Walk between Bondi Beach and Coogee Beach. The scenery in this area of the city is simply fantastic!

So I crossed the street from Hyde Park and headed into Hyde Park Barracks. This is a historical place, and I wanted to check it out.

I crossed the road from the church to go to Hyde Park, this wide expanse of greenery right in front of it.

The Australian Adventure: St. Mary's Cathedral in Sydney

While I was in the Central Business District of Sydney, I also explored a nearby church, which turned out to be the St. Mary's Cathedral. I later learned that it was the largest church in Australia.

The Australian Adventure: The Anzac Memorial

So we landed in Sydney. And there's family. So we didn't do much sightseeing. But nevertheless, we were able to see a few things. I started with the Anzac Memorial, right in the middle of Sydney's Central Business District.

The Australian Adventure: Abbotsford Convent

On one of the other days when we had a car, we went to Abbotsford Convent. This is just outside of Melbourne's Central Business District.

The Australian Adventure: Melbourne Museum

I spent a week in Melbourne, including days when we went outside of the city to do day trips to destinations where a car is beneficial. And I get the impression that Melbourne is small, and that after spending a week, I felt like I have seen everything that a visitor should see. I am sure this is a mistaken impression, but in any case, I didn't get the feeling that there were plenty of things I wanted to see, and yet had no time to do so. The CBD for example is rather small, and I definitely felt like I have seen all of the spots that I found interesting, including the Melbourne Museum.

The Australian Adventure: The Ian Potter Centre

One of the other things we did was spend an afternoon in the Ian Potter Centre. This is an art gallery focusing in Australian art and culture, located in the heart of Melbourne. I was told that it is the world's first major gallery exclusively devoted to Australian art.

The Australian Adventure: La Trobe Reading Room

On one of the days when we were on our own in Melbourne, we went ahead and explored the city. Melbourne has a Central Business District that is rather compact, where most of the points of interest are located. One of the places we decided to check out was the La Trobe Reading Room, in the State Library of Victoria.

The Australian Adventure: Werribee Mansion

Just outside of Melbourne, there is the Werribee Mansion, which we visited. It required some driving, but that was not a problem given that we were together with our cousins who had a large car.

The Australian Adventure: Shrine of Remembrance

We spent one week in Melbourne. I thought it was a compact city, and while the food scene was fantastically diverse, I thought there were just a few sights that would be of interest to visitors, and if one has a week to spare, one would see them all. In any case, one of the first things we checked out when we were exploring the city was the Shrine of Remembrance.

So I visited a new country recently. I went to Australia for the very first time. Oh my god, it was oh so far!
