So I visited a new country recently. I went to Australia for the very first time. Oh my god, it was oh so far!
We have been planning this visit for a while. In fact, we originally conceived of this visit as a trip where we would evaluate whether we could consider living in Australia for the long term. In any case, this idea of immigrating to Australia was shelved, and so the idea of the trip was modified to be a regular holiday. So with this mindset, we headed over for a very long flight. Our idea was to spend a week in Melbourne, followed by a week in Sydney. In both locations, we knew people, and we wanted to see them as we haven't seen them for a very long time.
We flew from Berlin to Istanbul, where we connected to a flight to Melbourne, which had a stop over in Singapore. This was a very long flight. I don't think I had done two long-haul flights one after another before. So this was definitely a first. We had a nice apart-hotel in Melbourne, where we spent the week. Three of those days we hung out with my husband's cousin and his family. For the other days, we checked out the city, mostly eating our way through the very diverse food scene in Melbourne.
After a week, we flew from Melbourne to Sydney, where we spent another week. This time, we stayed in another one of Eitan's cousins, and in addition to that, we also met up with several other cousins, also of mine. I met my cousin who I haven't seen since 2007. I also met her husband, who I coincidentally met back in 2018, when I was stopping by in Qatar. And I definitely enjoyed Sydney with its varied landscapes and interesting neighbourhoods.
After a week in Sydney, it was time to head back home, so we flew to Istanbul on a flight that had a stop-over in Kuala Lumpur, and from Istanbul we caught another flight to Berlin.
I took some photos of course, so those will eventually show up here, one after another. Stay tuned.
