I spent a week in Melbourne, including days when we went outside of the city to do day trips to destinations where a car is beneficial. And I get the impression that Melbourne is small, and that after spending a week, I felt like I have seen everything that a visitor should see. I am sure this is a mistaken impression, but in any case, I didn't get the feeling that there were plenty of things I wanted to see, and yet had no time to do so. The CBD for example is rather small, and I definitely felt like I have seen all of the spots that I found interesting, including the Melbourne Museum.
The Melbourne Museum is a natural and cultural history museum located in the beautiful Carlton Gardens in Melbourne, Australia, right next to the historic Royal Exhibition Building. It is part of Museums Victoria, the largest public museum organization in Australia.
The Royal Exhibition Building, as I mentioned above, is just next door. When we were there, however, it was closed. Perhaps there was no event going on, and therefore we didn't get a chance to check out the interior.
Once we entered the Melbourne Museum, we realised that there were several sections. I really liked the Forest Galley, shown above. This space is a unique, three-story indoor exhibition portraying the temperate forests of eastern Victoria with a range of living plants and animals.
And then there were the exhibitions on science and life, in particular the little creatures (which were magnified immensely), as well as the dinosaurs. I definitely enjoyed these exhibits, even though there were also plenty of other people next to me trying to see all of them.
Overall, we spent a few hours here meandering around and checking out its contents. Afterwards, we made our way to the exit and moved on.
