The last ancient Angkor temple I have checked out before moving on was this one, Preah Khan. It was built in the 12th century for King Jayavarman VII to honour his father. I went here after visiting Ta Som and Neak Poan.
All three sites were clustered on the north side of a large basin, and so I just hailed another tuktuk to bring me here. And when I got there, there were a few people, but as this isn't the most popular temple, it was not very crowded.
This temple is still largelt unrestored, and I learned later that this temple experienced decline as the monarchy stopped supporting it by the 15th century. There is restoration work going on, but nevertheless there are still plenty of unknown elements in the complex, and so to a large extent, the ruins atmosphere is just being sustained.
After visiting this, I figured I had enough of ancient Angkor temple ruins, and so I slowly headed back to my hotel, and prepared for my next destination.
