After a small interlude where I went all the way to Mainz in order to hike, I picked up the E10 again where I left off, in Borgsdorf. I found this trail slightly annoying the last time, as for the most part, it was on bike paths, and therefore this meant that the trail was rather paved. Thankfully, it was less so this time.
I headed north from Berlin, taking the S-Bahn. The S1 runs all the way to Oranienburg, and Borgsdorf is two stations south of it. Good thing the S-Bahn was running, as there have been a few storms lately, and this resulted in some fallen trees, which hampered the train lines.
Borgsdorf is a village within the municipality of Hohen Neuendorf, but right next to it is Lehnitz, a village that is part of Oranienburg. This is where I spent the majority of my time.
There are a couple of lakes here, and there are even bathing areas on their sides. I passed by Lehnitzsee, which was popular for the locals, who spent the entire day wading on the water.
I also passed by a memorial. There was a factory here during World War II, as it was close to the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp. Prisoners were working here until they died, essentially. Nowadays, there is a sombre memorial.
And then I continued along the Oder-Havel Canal. This canal was built in the early 20th century, in order to link the Oder and the Havel rivers. Nowadays, it's a rather quiet waterway, and there are hikers on one side and bikers on the other.
Eventually, I reached the village of Nassenheide, which is part of the municipality of Löwenberger Land. Nassenheide is rather quiet, and aside from an hourly train, it looks like nothing much is happening here. So I just waited for the train, which didn't arrive, but instead, a replacement bus was in service. This brought me to Oranienburg, where I was able to catch an S-Bahn to Berlin.
