The last thing we did in Los Angeles before taking a flight back home was to visit the Getty Center. Earlier, we've visited the Getty Villa, but the Getty Museum has two locations. We opted to visit the other location as well, in Brentwood. It's rather far away from where we were in San Pedro, but we had a car and so it wasn't too complicated to get there.
We parked the car in the parking lot, and from there, there was this tram that we rode to take us to the entrance. Climbing the hill to get to the entrance was actually a spectacular thing. I don't think I've experienced such a spectacular entrance to a museum in the past.
The complex is designed by architect Richard Meier. I am not too familiar with his works, though I did visit the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art a few years ago. The complex looks very wide and spacious, and definitely has lots of space for the artwork that is being displayed.
There is a sculpture garden, which is situated on an area that provides spectacular views of Los Angeles. I took a few photos of the pieces that were installed.
There is a wide variety of art that is on display here. There are paintings, sculpture, even furniture. Some are rather very old, while others are more contemporary. There are pieces that are religious in nature. Basically, every notable epoch in Western art is represented in a pavilion, and one can of course pick and choose to see which areas interest one more than others.
There was even a pavilion that was more or less a recreation of a French palace. It feels more like one was in Versailles than in Los Angeles.
After spending a few hours, one can definitely experience artwork fatigue, so we didn't opt to see everything. After some time, we retraced our steps and headed back to the car. And from there, we slowly wrapped up our trip to Los Angeles. A long-haul flight awaits, and we are back home. Of course, there's a new travelogue coming up, so stay tuned.
