The Walt Disney Concert Hall it turns out is not a standalone venue. It is apparently part of a larger complex of venues, the Los Angeles Music Center. So when we joined the tour of the Walt Disney Concert Hall, we also learned a lot about the other venues comprising this complex.
We crossed the street, and visited the other venues. Unfortunately, some of the venues were not accessible as there were rehearsals going on, but we were able to take a peek on the others.
The theatre that we explored in detail was the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. This theatre was constructed in the 1960s, and it shows in its design. The lobby however is still majestic, and was worth checking out.
There were interesting rooms that were opened for us. For example, the photos above show the lounge, which was richly furnished with wooden features. There is a bar, which was closed when we visited, but I suppose this is where the rich and famous hang out before a show.
We checked out the auditorium. I learned that this is where operas are produced typically in Los Angeles. Our tour guide was especially fond of operas so it seems she is a regular visitor to this theatre.
There was another lounge with a bar, and what I found interesting here was the artwork that was displayed. The art was relatively modern, and even though the building was getting dated, I still found the artwork rather captivating.
After exiting the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, we walked towards the other venues, but as I said before, there were either shows for students that was going on, or rehearsals taking place, and therefore we didn't go inside.
If you want to see a show in Los Angeles, there's a high chance it'll be produced in one of these venues. Try to get a ticket if you have the chance.
