Every city in southeastern Anatolia has its own mosaic museum. Şanlıurfa is no different, and there is a museum in the city centre dedicated to mosaics. So one day, I decided to check it out.
The mosaic museum is right next door to the archaeology mueum, which is also well-stacked with artifacts. I visited the mosaic museum first, walking on its glass concourse that allows visitors to view the mosaics from above.
These mosaics date from the 2nd century AD, and shows how opulent and extravagant some of the ancient houses were. These mosaics decorated the rooms of those houses, which gives an indication of the standards of living of the people back then.
