The Anatolian Adventure: Muradiye Complex

The last thing I decided to explore before heading to Istanbul was the Muradiye Complex. This collection of tombs is found in the western side of Bursa, and given I was staying in a central location, it was a convenient walk from where I was.

Murad II built this collection of 12 tombs, belonging to his relatives. Hence, it's essentially a collection of small buildings with tombstones within, all positioned within a small park area.

I had this impression that the different buildings had varying degrees of opulence and seriousness. Some were prettier than the others.

Others had very interesting interiors, in particular, the ceilings and the domes.

For other buildings, I was impressed with the wall design.

Just outside, there is a collection of outdoor tombstones as well, with very interesting head sculptures. I am guessing that the level of elaborate detail signifies the importance of the deceased person.

This was the last thing I checked out while I was in Bursa. After this, I caught a bus and slowly made my way to Istanbul. It's time to go home.
