Natale a Napoli: Castel dell'Ovo

Naples has several castles. We've visited two of them: the second one is the Egg Castle, located by the waterfront. It is a few steps from our hotel.

Apparently, the name originates from a medieval legend, concerning Virgil. In the Middle Ages, Virgil was thought to be a sorcerer and predictor of the future. There was supposed to be a magical egg buried in the castle's foundation, and if the egg broke, then the castle would be destroyed, as well as Naples. Well, both the castle and the city are still going strong.

We climbed up the castle, slowly ascending its stone staircases. And at the top, we enjoyed the wonderful views it provided of the surrounding areas.

It's not much to see inside, but nevertheless it was a pleasant place to stroll around and explore. There are a few restaurants at the base but we didn't try any of them this time.
