Punta del Este was the first place I visited after landing in Montevideo. I landed early in the morning, and after withdrawing some money from the ATM in the airport, I found a bus that took me from the airport to this resort town.
Looking back, I wasn't sure why I decided to go to Punta del Este. I suppose it's because the guidebook mentioned that it would be a highlight for Uruguay. But then again, I was visiting in off-seaon. So when I arrived there, I found a place that had the potential to be dazzlingly pretty, yet at the same time, I felt like I was in a post-apocalyptic place, where everyone else were taken somewhere and I was one of the few who were left behind.
The beach was empty. I saw a few people walking their dogs. But otherwise, the place was dead. The buildings were fancy, yet there seems to be no one there. It was slightly eerie, to be honest. But in any case, I survived. I suppose it was a good place to fall off the radar, in any case.
