Montreal hosted the Olympics at some point in the past. But once those events were over, the facilities have been repurposed. The velodrome, for example, which was constructed for the Olympic Games, was repurposed into the Biodôme de Montréal, which is an exhibition area that showcases several ecosystems in the Americas. I actually thought this was a neat idea and therefore went there for a visit.
I knew that I had to dress properly. I read beforehand that there were several ecosystems featured, and it ranged from relatively warm and humid areas to arctic temperatures. So I brought my jacket as appropriate.
From the outside, the Biodôme de Montréal is a good-looking building. It's rather futuristic, and was definitely inviting visitors towards exploring what its interior holds.
I procured a ticket for myself and explored its interior. The tour begins with the warmest part of the building, and due to this, the creatures living in this area were also rather rare, as they prefer warm climates, and Canada isn't really the warmest place in the Americas. I have seen birds such as the ones depicted above, in their natural habitat, for example, in Guatemala, further south from where I was.
There were plenty of other animals in this warm area of the building. At some point, I was trying to find a sloth, yet as is typical with sloths, they rarely move, and therefore it's very hard for them to be seen given their camouflage and non-movement.
The exhibit continued, and the temperatures went down. The animals changed into something else, and became creatures that one would more expect in a location such as Montreal.
And finally, the temperatures became cold. I saw penguins. Those were absolutely cute, and a joy to look at. I spent quite some moments staring at them, though at some point I had to wear my jacket as the temperature was rather cold.
Overall, I had fun here. If you're visiting Montreal, this is a cool place to check out.
