Working Remotely in Bavaria: Dom St. Stephan in Passau

There was one day in which I wasn't working, yet it was too warm to spend the entire day hiking. So instead, I decided to go to Passau instead, and do a day trip.

I actually was originally intending to go to Munich on this day, however, there was a problem on the train line between Regensburg and Munich. There was some obstruction, so when I reached Landshut (halfway between Regensburg and Munich), I evaluated my options. And in order to not spend the day just waiting for trains, I decided to change my plans and take a different train from there, going to Passau. In any case, I arrived in Passau in the late morning, with enough time to explore the city. And the first thing I stumbled upon was the Dom St. Stephan, or St. Stephen's Cathedral, in the Old Town.

This church is from 1688. It is the seat of the Catholic Bishop for the city and the main church of his diocese. It was a sunny day, and the white facade was quite prominent as I was approaching the square from the other side.

There was actually an organ concert when I arrived, but after waiting for a bit, the concert finished, and I was able to enter and stroll within the church. I am told that the organ is the largest church organ outside of North America. That being said, I found the interior rather eye-catching, and I actually didn't pay attention to the organ at all.

I forget that people in southern Germany are Catholics. In any case, I observed several devout believers still going into the church and doing whatever religious habit they typically do whenever they are in church.
