On Changing Blog Patterns

Oh boy, this year, my blog patterns have varied quite a bit. Ugh!

Up until earlier this year, I have been constantly blogging every other day. And I had a typical predictable pattern with it: every other post was about my travels. And interspersed in between is a post about one of the following topics: hiking, music or theatre, book reviews, and other personal topics. This has been working for me, up until earlier this year, when I realised that I had a huge backlog of books which I already read, yet hasn't blogged about yet. So I had to remedy that.

I then decided sometime in April to have two book reviews one after another, while overall preserving the above-mentioned structure and rhythm. That worked for a bit, as it reduced my backlog of book reviews to a manageable level. But then I saw another problem appear: I started lacking content for the travel topic. This mostly was due to the fact that I didn't plan my vacations well: yes I took holidays, but for the most part, these holidays were family visits (which generally doesn't produce much content, as I would just be hanging out with my family), or remote work, which I have done a couple of this year. So I had to remedy that.

By September, my book review backlog was solved, so I went back to my regular one book review per cycle. And at the same time, I didn't have enough hiking trips done, so I had to recategorise it together with travel. I am sure I would change the pattern again by year-end, as hiking for me is typically a warm weather affair, and by the time winter hits, I would lose that material again. Oh well.

At least I still find this activity entertaining. I've been doing this for 20 years already, yet it still doesn't bore me.
