It is time to leave. Three weeks in Japan was fascinating. But before we did that, we still explored a few small places in Fukuoka. After all, it's not a common occurence for us to be in Japan, so we took all opportunities to explore this fantastic country.
I loved Fukuoka, it's a metropolis but it doesn't feel overwhelming. There is the typical Japanese metropolitan buzz, yet somehow, it's still navigable and not crowded. And while we were in this city, we checked out the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum.
I liked this museum - it's not overwhelming. There was the permanent collection, as well as a temporary exhibit. I don't recall which one we actually visited, but in any case, it was interesting to see these fascinating works of art.
After that, we went to this neighbourhood in Fukuoka that was more or less its Old Town. There were plenty of little temples, and some of them were even open to the public. The thing with Japanese temples is that they have a typical look, and so if one visits these temples one after another, one would perhaps experience temple fatigue, so we just took a stroll and checked these places out, without doing a deep dive on every single temple that we passed by.
Eventually, it was time to go. One final lunch, one final look. Three weeks in Japan was fascinating, and I am so looking forward to doing it again. But for now, it was time to return. We went back to our hotel, picked up our checked luggage, and headed to Fukuoka Airport. We used our ICOCA Card one final time. And from Fukuoka, we flew to Tokyo-Haneda, and from there to Helsinki (via the North Pole). And after one additional flight, we were back in Berlin.
Oh Japan, this was fantastic. We will see each other again. But in the meantime, there's another travelogue coming up. Stay tuned.
