A Journey to Japan: Daishō-in

The Itsukushima Shrine wasn't the only thing worth exploring in Miyajima. After checking out the floating torii, we went to the hills behind and climbed up the staircases that led to Daishō-in. The name of this temple actually means Great Holy Temple, and there were plenty of interesting features that we explored.

The interesting thing was that most people stayed down the hill, and didn't go up. So the higher we went, the less crowded it became.

As we went up the staircase, we noticed the numerous interesting features of this temple. There were plenty of stone figures that were positioned on the sidelines, and while I don't really know much about Japanese belief systems, I have to say, they are rather cute.

There was a temple that we passed by, whose interior we checked out. There was a wall that had full of these interesting figurines. It was amazing looking at rows and rows of these figures.

And then there was this cave that was illuminated with yellow light, and as much as I didn't really understand what was going on, I simply went and strolled around to admire the scenery.

Eventually, we made our way down. And then we slowly headed back to the pier to catch the ferry back to the mainland.

This was an interesting day trip, and I can definitely see why plenty of people head this way.
