Late last year, we did something new. To escape the Berlin winter for a little bit, we opted to rent an apartment in the Côte d'Azur, in Nice, to be precise. Our idea was to spend two weeks there, remote working, while enjoying the milder weather. And I have to say, it was fantastic!
This trip was essentially our extended Christmas holidays. Due to some personal obligations, my husband and I were first in Paris for a couple of nights. And from Paris, we flew to Nice. We arrived, and immediately liked the warmer surroundings. I really loved the fact that we saw the sun again! And for two weeks, Nice would be our home. During this time, we would learn which supermarkets we would eventually like, which restaurants had amazing food, and which parts of the Old Town had the best charming scenery. It was also the first time that both us were remote working in one location: up until now, all of my remote working stints were solo, with me going to cities where for the most part I have already been to, and I was just parked in a hotel on my own. This time, it was the two of us, and we rented an apartment with separate rooms (i.e., not a studio), so that in case we had calls, we could do them in separate rooms.
I loved the routines we had while we were there for two weeks. I already mentioned the supermarkets: it definitely was a different experience as we were there for two weeks, and during these two weeks, we also cooked and made our own meals in the apartment. We didn't eat out in restaurants all the time, and this allowed us to feel like we were there as (temporary) residents, and not as tourists. That was definitely fun.
While we were there, of course there were days when we didn't work. We toured the area, as well as its neighbouring surroundings. Nice was a pleasant city definitely, but we also made good use of the train that links it to the other nearby cities, such as Monaco, Cannes, and Ventimiglia. We did a couple of day trips, and I even did a little hike along the coast.
Overall, this was a massively pleasant experience. And after spending two weeks in the Côte d'Azur, we wrapped it up and we flew to Budapest, as it was getting closer to Christmas and it was time to hang out with my lovely relatives.
