One other day, while we were in Nice, we took another day off. We again took the train, and this time, we went all the way to the French-Italian border and beyond, to the town of Ventimiglia. This is in Italy, in Liguria. We decided to go here just because, why not?
The French train goes all the way from Nice and terminates in Ventimiglia. So we just bought a ticket and went all the way to the end. When we got there, we found an Italian town. It was bizarrely surprising that just by crossing the border, there were little aspects of the scenery that definitely changed. The trees for example looked slightly different, more Italian, than French. And there was a little bit more chaos on the street. Just a little bit.
From the train station, we walked towards the seashore, and eventually to the Old Town. Ventimiglia's Old Town is sitting on top of a hill, which was somewhat interesting. In any case, we were exploring the streets, and as we followed our maps, we eventually saw the hill that contains the numerous old buildings, which altogether makes a fantastic scenery.
There was a church in the old town, which was enticing enough to explore. So we went in, and visited its nooks and crannies, even the underground crypt. It had some interesting aspects, but as the exhibits were not massive, soon enough we were out again.
We explored the Old Town, but it was small. In any case, we found lunch. There was a nice restaurant overlooking the sea, sitting on a cliffside. We had lunch there, and once lunch was over, we headed back to the train station to head back to France.
We visited additional towns in the French side, but that was for the afternoon.
