The Indochina Adventure: Hội An

So I am back in Vietnam from a brief stint in Cambodia. I flew from Siem Reap to Da Nang, and upon landing, I took a car and headed to Hội An, a nearby city with an enchanting Old Town.

It was rainy when I arrived, and given that it's an Old Town, there were some puddles I had to navigate. But that was okay, I was prepared for it. And after all, there's a certain charm in checking out an Old Town in grey mist. So I based myself in a villa nearby, and checked out this old trading port, which is now consisting of charming streets lined up with traditional houses, that are now acting as shops and restaurants. It was a touristy affair, but nevertheless there was still a charm to it.

The Old Town of Hội An doesn't have any major sights. Rather, it has a collection of small sights that one can take a peek inside, if one wants to. The Old Town actually has a ticket system, where you can buy a ticket which allows you to visit a number of sights which you select on your own, from a collection. And if you want to visit more, you simply need to buy another ticket. So I did that a couple of times.

So as you see in the collection of photos I have above, I have visited a bunch of varied items, from temples to traditional houses. There's quite a few of these in Hội An, and I have to say, while they were all pretty and charming, there's also no single place that stands out as a must-see. Rather, each place is one piece of a collective, and Hội An the town, as a collective, provides its charm to the visitor.

I was in Hội An for a few days, as I used it not only to explore the Old Town, but also to be as a base as I explore the nearby area. So stay tuned, there's more.
