The Indochina Adventure: The Imperial City of Huế

After Da Nang, I moved on. I took the train (first time doing so in Vietnam) and headed to Huế. This used to be the former capital of Vietnam, and therefore had many interesting historical sites worth checking out.

The train ride was not the nicest, but perhaps for Southeast Asian standards, it was fine. In any case, I arrived, found my hotel, and at the next opportunity, explored the Imperial City.

There is a moat, and plenty of massive thick walls. There is an entrance ticket for the entire complex, so after procuring that, I started exploring, checking out the massive walls as well as the buildings and other structures that can be visited.

Vietnamese palaces seem to be semi-open-air, and there are these halls that have walls that can be opened or closed. And inside they feature a rather glamorous interior, like the one above.

Inside these walls are fancy buildings and impressive gardens. I was wandering among these paths, but at some point the sun starting becoming rather hot.

One fancy building was standing right at the middle of the imperial city, and the facade was just outrageous. The interior was comparable to Western palaces. Man, this is a fancy place.

I explored other gardens as well as a few other buildings within the complex. Overall, this was a place definitely worth seeing. Just bring an umbrella and a hat when you go visit, as the day can be hot.
