Mainz gives the impression that it is a very religious city, at least if you look at the architecture. I didn't feel the people to be conservative, however, I definitely noticed that there are plenty of churches in many neighbourhoods. I visited a few of them.
I actually consulted a few sources to see which churches are worth seeing. So on the day that I wanted to chill, I simply headed out and ventured to the city.
I first headed to the Christuskirche. This church is located close to the river, and unfortunately it was closed. So I simply was able to admire its exterior. Sources say it would have been open during the time I was there, but alas the reality didn't match.
My next church was St. Stephen's Church. This church is known for its blue-tinted Marc Chagall stained glass windows. I took the bus for a short ride in order to get here, as this church is in the old town.
My third church was Ignazkirche, and I actually already saw this a few days earlier, but that was just from pure coincidence, and therefore I didn't really take photos. This time, however, I checked out the interior together with my camera, as the interior was rather opulent and visually fantastic.
And the last church I saw was the Agustinenkirche. This one is located on a shopping street on the Old Town, and while it isn't very noticeable from the outside, the interior definitely is a sight to behold.
After checking out these four churches, I figured I have had enough of Mainz churches, and so I headed out to get some lunch.
