The first thing I have done in London after dropping off my luggage in the hotel was to walk The Line. This is a public art trail running through East London, and since I wanted to explore more of this part of London, walking along this trail seemed like a very logical thing to do.
This trail starts from Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, so I headed there to find the starting point. Eventually, I saw modernity, skyscrapers, tall structures, and other items that made me feel good I am in a modern city like London.
I found more or less all of the artwork on the line. Starting at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the major feature is Anish Kapoor's ArcelorMittal Orbit from 2012. This structure has an observation deck, as well as a slide, and I heard that the slide is actually the longest slide in the world. I didn't have the guts to try it though, but maybe next time.
Going south, I walked alongside the rivers that bisect the land in this area, and went around the industrial area full of logistics warehouses, until I reached Cody Dock.
From Cody Dock, I traveled by public transportation to the Royal Docks, where the new London City Hall is located. And from there, I took the cable car to head to the O2 Arena.
After circling the area around the arena, the trail terminates. At this point, I have seen more than 20-something pieces of artwork, all displayed in public. It's a great way to explore London, and is something that I think is totally recommended, especially if the weather cooperates.
From here, I walked to the nearest train station, and headed elsewhere.
