On my last day, I headed to the Victoria and Albert Museum. It was a Sunday, and after checking out of my hotel, I simply stored my bag and headed out. I have the entire morning for myself, and I decided to head to this museum to explore its massive collection.
I did it systematically. I started with the sections on European Art, and I checked out every room. I had a map with me, and even if it meant going through the halls multiple times just so that I can concentrate on it thematically, I did it.
I started with checking out the room containing the Raphael Cartoons. These are seven large cartoon paintings on paper for tapestries. They are part of the British Royal Collection, yet have been on loan with the museum since 1865, I am told.
And then, I just went room by room, checking out the fascinating artefacts and other specimens in this museum. There's pieces from the Medieval and Renaissance Periods. There's rooms that were recreated as period pieces from various locations, and there were old musical instruments. There were numerous pieces that were definitely fascinating to look at, and I absolutely enjoyed examining them.
To avoid museum fatigue, I didn't look at every item. I just surveyed each room and checked out the things that I thought were interesting. And by the way, this museum is free! One can simply walk in and out as they please. So if one wanted to take a break, that is totally possible.
