One Sunday morning, I decided to head east. The weather has improved, and so I wanted to explore Chengdu. I ended up in Dongjiao Jiyi, or Eastern Suburb Memory. This is where Chengdu's industrial past gets modernised.
Dongjiao Jiyi is easily reachable by the metro. So I took it, and less than an hour later, I was there. Dongjiao Jiyi is a former industrial factory zone which has been transformed into a cultural and creative hub. And of course, there's also shopping. I wandered around for a while, checking out the location.
As you can see in my photos above, the industrial vibe is definitely present. There are industrial buildings, chimneys, as well as pipelines which provide a unique aesthetic against the modern, stylish shops. There is also a significant amount of rather tasteful graffiti. Nowadays, it functions as a hub for youth culture, fashion, and photography.
There's also a section on restaurants and other food shops. However, I just strolled through them without eating anything, as I noticed the rather high prices. It was still affordable, of course, yet given that I know for a fact that there are way cheaper options just across the road outside of Dongjiao Jiyi, I figured why would I pay more for the same bowl of noodles when I can get them for cheaper just across the street?
