Easter in Riga: Exploring the Old Town

So, we arrived in Riga. We arrived late at night, so we just plopped dead into our bed once we checked in. But the day after, we started exploring. Of course, we started at the Old Town.

It was just early April, so it was still slightly chilly. We had our winter coats on. Yet that didn't deter us from wandering around.

Old Town Riga can be rather funky. It has interesting art work, for example. The above photo was taken just as we were walking somewhere in a random street.

Given that Riga is a city in northern Europe, there are large similarities when it comes to the architecture. I have seen such motifs in other northern cities in the past, mostly in northern Germany. Riga exhibits these features as well, which given its geographical location, is not very surprising.

There are canals that bisect some parts of the inner city. I actually liked this area, as it was rather peaceful and calm. There are also majestic buildings and monuments that were also nice to look at.

And there are many other architectural wonders, such as opulent palatial museums, Orthodox churches, and art nouveau buildings. Riga is just fun to stroll around, which is what we have done for a few days.
