Easter in Riga: Latvian National Museum of Art

When I am in a new city, I tend to visit the local art museum. This allows me to see and get a glimpse of the local art. I did the same when we were in Riga, by visiting the Latvian National Museum of Art.

The Latvian National Museum of Art in Riga is the largest repository of professional art in Latvia, housing a magnificent collection that spans from the mid-18th century to the modern era. The building itself is an architectural landmark, masterfully blending a stately historic facade with a striking, innovative modern expansion.

One of the museum's most celebrated unique features is its visible, transparent storage area located in the basement level. Visitors can look through glass walls to see thousands of archived paintings arranged on sliding racks, offering a fascinating behind-the-scenes glimpse into museum preservation. I actually haven't seen anything like that before, so seeing how paintings are stored was actually fascinating.

Eventually, we covered the entire museum, and then slowly made our way to the exit.
