Book Review: The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton

Surprisingly, I enjoyed this book immensely. Somehow that was unexpected.

See, I recall seeing the 1993 movie featuring Daniel Day-Lewis, Winona Ryder, and Michelle Pfeiffer. I recall that it was a so-called period piece. But I didn't recall anything about the story at all. Now, decades later, somehow this book landed on my reading list, and I was able to finally pick it up. I have to say, it was an immensely enjoyable read.

This novel is a masterpiece of American fiction that earned Edith Wharton the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, making her the first woman to win the award. Set in 1870s New York City, the novel is both a poignant romance and a scathing critique of the rigid social expectations governing Gilded Age high society.

A Visit to Vienna: Military History Museum

While I was in Vienna, I was coincidentally reading a book about the Arctic Expedition of Julius von Payer. He was an explorer from Austria-Hungary, and led an expedition in the 1870s, which led to the discovery of Franz Joseph Land. He was also a painter, and produced various paintings with this expedition as subject material. And it turns out that these paintings are exhibited in the Military History Museum in Vienna. So I figured I pay this museum a visit.

Cute & Awkward

I was in Vienna a while ago, and while I was there, it happened that it was during the time the ImPulsTanz - Vienna International Dance Festival was going on. So I decided to attend a couple of shows while I was there, and this was one of them.
