Creating my Berlin Burger

A couple of weeks ago, I had a very amazing experience with the kitchen. See, since 2011 I have been a part of Yelp! and it just has helped me discover many interesting places in many different cities I have been living in, as well as visited. I first encountered Yelp in Buffalo, in 2011, when I realized that I only had one year left in the city and I still haven't figured out what are the nice things to do there. So I went online, and found the website, and got to know the various people who are active in it. After a few months, I became an Elite. And being an Elite gives you perks!

See, there are events that are open only to the Elite members. In Buffalo, I joined a picnic, where restaurants and other shops prepared food for us to try. And here in Berlin, the MO is the same. A couple of weeks ago, I participated in a burger workshop. I got to create a burger in a restaurant's kitchen!

There were 12 people, all of us are Elites. We were broken into 3 teams, and each team would have to think of the best burger that would represent Berlin. Yes, we were creating the Berlin Burger. And we would sample all 3 burgers, and then we would rate the other teams' burgers. The team with the best rating will have their burger included in the menu of this restaurant as the "Berlin Burger".

Unfortunately, my team's burger only made second place. I have to say that the winning burger was not my choice, but that is just me. Regardless, I had a great time doing this task. We had an awesome evening hanging out with friends and fellow Yelpers; I met a couple of nice and interesting people, and our burgers were very delicious! The winning team received gift cards for the restaurant. And what's more, everything we ate in the restaurant that night was free! Needless to say, I also enjoyed my time in the kitchen; in my team, I was responsible for assembling the ingredients and shaping the burger patties, as well as cutting some of the ingredients that were needed in our burger. Somehow, working in the kitchen sort of was exciting, I dunno.

There, if you visit Spreegold in their Prenzlauer Berg branch (near S+U Bhf Schönhauser Allee), you will probably see the winning burger at the menu within the next couple of weeks.

  1. Wow, I didn't know you were en Elite member! That's cool.

    1. Zhu,

Yes, definitely! It allows me to discover interesting things in the city that I would otherwise not know about!
