A Week in Franconia: Albrecht Dürer House

Before coming to Nürnberg, I never knew anything about Albrecht Dürer. But somehow, as I was exploring the Old Town, I stumbled upon his house, which now functions as a museum. So I decided to visit it and check it out.

The museum is found at the northern edge of the Old Town, near the Castle. There's a lively plaza right in front of it, with plenty of restaurants and other hospitality establishments. And at the southern corner of this plaza is the museum that used to be Albrecht Dürer's house.

Albrecht Dürer was a Renaissance printmaker and artist, and apparently I have already seen several of his famous paintings in the past, without actually recognising that the painting was made by him. The museum - as the photos above show - emphasise the old living conditions he had back then. The house is a Fachwerkhaus, a house made with timber wood frames. It was heavily bombed during World War II, but was restored from 1949, and opened as a museum from 1971.
