This is probably a sign that I am not a millenial. Yes, I recently bought a new camera, as a replacement to my old one, which I have been using now for nine years. This is in spite of the fact that most phones nowadays have a camera that is already capable of producing high quality photos.
See, this would be my third camera. I remember getting my very first camera back in 2006. After filing my very first ever tax returns, and getting the money back, I used the money to get myself a Sony DSC-S600. I was happy to get that camera, and I used that to document my first trips, starting from my summer in the Czech Republic in 2006, to my first visits to Latin America, such as in Ecuador in 2007 and Peru in 2008. I used this camera for 5 years, until it started malfunctioning with the way it captured light.
I replaced this camera in 2011, when I bought a Sony DSC-H55. This is a camera that saw a lot of action, and is the one that I have used to take most of the pictures from the recent past. It went with me to plenty of trips to various countries all over the place. This is a very well-travelled camera, as I have taken it to four continents. I have also been using this for the last 9 years. Nevertheless, it also started to malfunction, and so I thought it was time to buy a replacement.
So I bought a Sony DSC-HX95. This will be my new toy for the time being, and I'll be teaching myself how to manipulate it in the next few days, right in time before a new trip. Sometimes, I feel that I belong to an old generation, as most people nowdays perhaps would simply use their phone camera to document their trips, yet for me, going on a trip is something special, so I want to have special equipment to document it.
