Zittau's religious institutions seem to have been converted into museums. Yes, there are still fully functioning churches, but the state museums seem to be located now on buildings that used to be churches. The same goes for the Lenten Altar Cloth: there are two massive tapestries on display in Zittau, and both of them are in museums located in former churches. The smaller one is in the Franciscan cloister, while the bigger one is in the Holy Cross Church. Unfortunately, photography is not permitted.
I viewed both tapestries. The good thing however is that there is running commentary on both. The audio describes what the tapestries are about, including details of their design. It is definitely a very intricate piece of art, and yes, due to their delicate nature, I can understand why photography is not permitted.
So while I was not able to capture the tapestries on camera, I did the next best thing, which was photograph the church grounds. There's a rather eerie cemetery. I suppose most churches do have cemeteries on their grounds, and this is no exception. I meandered a little bit and explored the graveyards, but after some time, I headed out and checked out something else in the city.
