Ever since I have moved to Berlin 9 years ago, I haven't really seen snow much. Of course, I have a high bar of comparison: I was coming from Buffalo, where winter was definitely a massive endeavour, and there would be snow everywhere for quite a while. I've seen mountains of snow and massive snowplows dealing with the white stuff. But here in Berlin, snow isn't a reliable weather phenomenon. Some years there would be some, other years there wouldn't be any. So when it arrives, it is a big deal. Like last weekend.
Last weekend, it snowed during the night of Friday to the morning of Saturday. So when we woke up and headed out for grocery shopping, it was pretty. Later on, we took a walk to a nearby park, and people were definitely taking advantage of the snow, bringing out their sleds and using little hills to slide down. It looked desperate, but hey, it was all fun.
Snow definitely is not a common sight here in Berlin. Back in 2013, during my first winter, there was quite a bit of snow, for a total of 89 days. I saw people who didn't have a clue how to deal with it. That said, that was actually an anomaly, as the following years actually didn't give Berlin much snow, to the point that sometimes I even was missing it. In fact, based on the local newspaper, last winter was actually a year which actually had no snow at all.
But this year, it's slightly colder. Heck, as I write this, it's actually -1 Celsius, and it'll be -7 during the night. It's cold, but we do have proper attire. So we still take walks every now and then.
Oh yes, I took pictures. It was just quite novel, so I opted to bring my camera and check things out.
