While I spent the majority of my time working while I was remotely working in Hungary, there were two days which I was able to use to explore areas in the country I haven't been to yet. In the second opportunity, I went to Vác, a town north of Budapest, right by the Danube.
Getting here was easy. I took a train from Nyugati pályaudvar, which was right in front of my hotel. And in less than an hour, I arrived in Vác.
I made my way to the main square upon arriving, which was a short walk from the train station. The above photos show the atmosphere of the main square, which is surrounded by some interesting buildings and an area that looks like a ruins displaying the remains of an earlier structure.
I made my way north, where I stumbled upon the Town Hall, as well as a few large monuments.
And further north, I saw the Arch of Triumph which was built for the 1764 visit of Empress Maria Theresa.
Then I took a stroll alongside the banks of the Danube, and while it was still winter, the weather that day was quite warm and pleasant.
I slowly made my way back to the centre of town, passing by some notable churches on the day, such as what is depicted above. Unfortunately, the churches were temporarily closed, given the pandemic.
After a few hours of exploring Vác, I made my way back to the train station and took a train back to Budapest.
