The Return of the Weirdos

Berlin is a very diverse city. But sometimes it is too diverse that I do a double-take every now and then. You know, there are some characters you see on the street that just makes you scratch your head. And this summer, after some pandemic- and weather-related absence, they are back.

I've seen people, mostly when I am in eastern Berlin, where it just makes me think whether they're stable in the head or not. Men walking around wearing bizarre clothing. Women walking around with no shoes at all. People dressed up like they're the most fashionable homeless person on the street. When you're around the area of Warschauer Strasse in Friedrichshain, especially during the weekend, then these are some of the characters that you probably would see sooner or later.

So yeah, the weirdos are back. As much as I like living in Berlin, there's definitely areas where I would rather stay away from, and live farther away from. I've turned 40 earlier this year, so I feel like I am a little old for this subculture at this point. Then again, every now and then you'd see the most punk-looking grandmother, striking the pavement.
