While we were in Okayama, we also did a day trip to Kurashiki, which is a nearby city. It was easily reachable by train, so we headed to the main train station and hopped on to the next train going in that direction.
There is this Old Town, the Bikan Historical Centre, which was a short walk away from Kurashiki's train station. We made our way there and soon enough, we saw very old houses and an interesting scenery.
There were plenty of very historical houses and other structures along a peaceful stream. The weeping willow trees were also doing great in contributing to the interesting atmosphere. I have to say that the historical area is rather small, and one can easily walk from one end to the other in a short period, but there were plenty of nooks and crannies that one can discover and get lost within.
We actually decided to visit a museum within the neighbourhood, the former Ohara's residence. This is an Edo-era historical mansion of a wealthy merchant family, with historical displays, a library, and a garden. It was fascinating to see how life was like back then.
After spending some hours, we slowly made our way back to the train station, and headed back to Okayama.
