We still had some days in Shanghai. So on one of these days, we did a day trip to a village that was far away, but believe it or not, it's still part of Shanghai. We took several metro rides to get to Zhujiajiao.
Zhujiajiao is an ancient town, and is a water town: plenty of transportation that happens in this area is by boat. There's also a metro station, which was a recent development. So we took the metro, and walked from the metro station to the Old Town, which I have to say, was very impressive.
We spent the day wandering around its narrow alleys. We saw plenty of interesting cuisine in the form of street food. We tried some of them, and they were tasty, but there was one thing I absolutely hated, and that was stinky tofu. It had a massively disgusting smell, and I absolutely couldn't tolerate it. I tried it in one restaurant some days before, but after that, I couldn't do it anymore. Thankfully, there were plenty of other options for food, but every now and then there was a shop in Zhujiajiao that sold stinky tofu, and that would make the entire surroundings smell bad for me.
We had lunch in a restaurant with a terrace facing the canals. It was definitely fun working on some tasty local dishes while watching the little canoes float back and forth underneath you.
Overall, it was a fun day. And around mid-afternoon, we slowly made our way back to the metro station, and again took the long ride back to where we were staying in Shanghai. It's almost time to leave.
