I divided the second leg into two hiking days. It was relatively long, not to mention that there were plenty of things worth seeing along the way. So on my third hiking day, I saw a few interesting things in and around the town of Bacharach.
Bacharach is a town on the Rhine Gorge, about 48 kilometres away from Koblenz. It is small, but quite pretty to be honest.
Burg Stahleck was the first thing I stumbled upon. It is another castle on the Rhine Gorge, and now functions as a youth hostel. Due to the fact that it is operating as an accommodation, the interior cannot be toured. In any case, the courtyard is accessible, and there are fine views of the surroundings, as is typical with the castles in this area.
And then I came upon the Gothic ruins of the Wernerkapelle. I wonder what this place looked like before, since nowadays there's only the pillars and the shell, and nothing else. Near the grounds however, one can have great views of the nearby church.
And then I got to the Old Town. It's relatively narrow and long, with a single main road that goes up and down. There are very cute shops lining the street, and the wood-timbered houses were also nice to look at. I ended a hike here, as there's a nearby train station. And when I continued my hike, this is also where I picked it up.
I wonder what it's like to live here. It's not quite close to a major city, as one would need to take a regional train to go to a large metropolis, like Mainz. But at least for a short visit, it was cute.
