Ein Volksfeind

Recently, I found myself once again in the Schaubühne, where I caught Thomas Ostermeier’s famous staging of Henrik Ibsen's Ein Volksfeind (An Enemy of the People). It is an incredible piece of theatre!

Berlin Boogie: Open House at the Hamburger Bahnhof

I have been to the Hamburger Bahnhof a few times before - the first time was actually in 2013. I remember liking the things that I saw back then. And I remember being there a couple more times when friends were visiting town. This time, I learned that they were hosting an Open House, and entrance was free. So I visited once again.

Book Review: Antic Hay by Aldous Huxley

This was slightly hard to get. It was easy to read, yet for the most part, I felt like I didn't fully grasp what was exactly going on. There were so many funny and bizarre characters, but somehow none of what they were doing made any sense. Of course, this is Huxley's satire, so he is satirising something, it's just not very obvious to me, as a 21st-century reader.

This book is dizzying, I have to say. It lacks a traditional, cohesive plot. Instead, it feels like it's a "novel of ideas" set in post-World War I London, capturing a generation that lost its moral compass in the trenches and decided to dance over the void. It's a novel that consists of deeply disillusioned, self-absorbed intellectuals simply spinning in circles to distract themselves from their own emptiness.

The last thing I saw before ending this trip was the Cuvilliés Theatre. This is in Munich, right in the middle of the city.

Everyone is on Their Phones

Back in April 2025, I went to China for the first time. My husband and I visited Shanghai, and one of the thoughts that I remember having was the observation I made while riding the Shanghai Metro. Everyone was looking at their phones. I thought that it was giving me such a dystopian feeling. I also remembering back then that people at home, in Germany, were not like this. I didn't realise that one year later, it would also be like this.
