So I continued the Rheinburgenweg. After a couple of rainy days which I conveniently used as rest days, I went back to Bacharach to pick up the trail and continue, this time to Oberwesel, about 13 kilometers away.
Bacharach was a pretty town, and I was definitely mesmerised by the Old Town, which had plenty of enchanting nooks and crannies. But eventually, I headed towards the trail, and away from the Old Town.
I made my way on foot from the train station, so this meant I went through the main street of the Old Town one more time, and from there I turned left and eventually left the town, climbing up the trail through the vineyards nearby.
As I climbed up, the beautiful view of Bacharach slowly appeared, and it was such a pretty sight. There are observation points that were strategically placed, allowing the viewer to see the panoramic view of the town, with the Rhine gently turning and curving in the background. I remember seeing this view once as the cover of a Lonely Planet guidebook for Germany, and I didn't realise it was a scene in Bacharach, until now.
I continued, and eventually I reached another castle, the Burg Schönburg. I did take a peek inside, but it is now functioning as a hotel, so there were areas inside that were off-limits to me. Nevertheless, it was a pretty castle.
At this point, I reached the town of Oberwesel. There was a train station here, so as usual, I descended from the hills and caught a train heading back to Mainz.
